10 Things you should know before you move to Germany

Every country has its own rules, habits and characteristics. Sometimes you are shocked when you move to another country and sometimes you are only confused. Here are ten things which are special in Germany.

1. Autobahn

I guess most people know the german freeways called “Autobahn“. They are famous because there is no speed limit. But there only sections of the Autobahn which have no speed limit. A lot of sections actual do have speed limits of 100 or 120 and 130 km/h. And most times there is a lot of traffic so you are not able to drive fast. But on sections where is no speed limit you must consider that people actual drive fast. So when you drive on the left lane with 60 or 70 mph don´t be surprised to have suddenly a car with a angry looking driver very close behind you. This is because German law only allows to overtake on the left side and overtaking on the right lane is forbidden. So cruising on the left lane is not very popular.

2. Feierabend

Germans are known for their working attitude: hard and disciplined working people. But the Germans do that only between 9 to 5. When they leave work they totally disconnect from work because they have “Feierabend“. It´s the time after work and Germans don´t want to think about work anymore.
