Founded by the Roman Emperor Augustus

Porta Nigra (Black Gate), www.wikipedia.org

I was born in 1965 in Trier, a city located in the west of Germany not far from the border with Luxembourg as well as Belgium and France. The city lies on the Moselle River and currently has about 111,000 inhabitants. Trier is known for its Roman past, Moselle wine, and Karl Marx. But one after the other.

The Romans in Trier

According to legend, Trier was founded 1,300 years before Rome. According to this, the city would have been founded about 2,000 before Christ. The Celtic tribe of the Treverians lived in the area.

As the Romans expanded their empire northward, they also…

Using the example of my most successful article on Google, which has something to do with German beer

The discovery

A few days ago I took a look at the statistics of my articles after a long time. One article stood out, which found readers over the whole time. All other articles of mine are usually seen in the days or weeks after publication and then only sporadically.

But this article has regular readers to this day. The number of daily readers is low and is up to 5 or 10 readers daily at most, but that still surprised me.

A résumé based on the fans and the revenue of my articles

Stats of the author

Starting point

After I signed up for Medium last August and published my first article on August 30th and three more articles in September, I thought it would be a good idea to take stock after the first month. All too quickly, over time, the memory of the beginning is lost. So I published my first interim report on September 27th.

I was happy to see that I already had numerous views and reads (“numerous” in relation to my start at Medium). I had assumed that in the infinite vastness of this site my articles would remain undiscovered for the time being…

What are historical shares?

Historical shares are devalued shares that no longer contain shareholder rights. They are registered shares, which are characterized by the fact that the shareholder is listed on the share as the owner of the share. If this shareholder sells his share, then this share is withdrawn and cancelled. The buyer of the share then receives a new share with his name.

The cancelled shares therefore no longer have any value. One can acquire these cancelled shares for little money. They only have collector’s value like paintings or stamps.

When I learned about such historical shares many years ago, I immediately…

A little guide to the biggest volksfest in the world

Photo by Manuel Joseph on Pexels

Origin of the Oktoberfest

In 1810 Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese. Numerous celebrations and events were held in Munich to mark the occasion. One of these events was a horse race, which is the origin of today’s Oktoberfest. This event took place outside the city limits of Munich at that time. The festival ground was later named Theresienwiese in honor of the bride.

Within a few years, this beginning developed into a fair that, with few exceptions, is still held regularly every year.

Although this fair is called Oktoberfest, it starts every year in September and lasts about two weeks. In…

The preliminary result of my investments when the pandemic started

One year ago

A year ago, when people realized that the Coronavirus thing was a global disaster, stock prices around the world dropped.
Mankind has not experienced such a pandemic in the recent past, and no one knew where it might lead.

But it quickly became clear that this worldwide catastrophe would also affect current prosperity. The global division of labor, with its enormous flows of goods and the immense mobility of people, would come to a standstill, at least in the short term. The uncertainty about the short-term, medium-term, and long-term effects of the pandemic was enormous.

Uncertainty about future developments is…

The story of how I became a writer at Medium

Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash

The beginning of the journey

It was about two years ago that I became increasingly bored with regular television programming. That’s when you get home from work, maybe you went out for some sports after work, and you just want to relax. Since I have to read and write a lot in my job and then I don’t want to read anything in the evening, TV is the first choice for me when it comes to relaxing in the evening.

My problem with this, however, is that I’m not a fan of crime series, hospital and doctor series, quiz shows, and cooking shows. Then, of…

I would never have thought that possible

Trigger

A week ago, shocking pictures went around the world. Protesters stormed the Capitol in Washington D.C. The heart of the most important country in the Western world had indeed been attacked from within. Like many others, both in the United States and abroad, I was shocked. Below, I would like to share my thoughts on this event.

My background

I was born in 1965 in West Germany near the Luxembourg and French borders. I went to school there and also attended university in my hometown. My growing older took place in a time of growing prosperity. Freedoms such as freedom of speech…

What I have achieved and in which cases I failed

Actual stats of the author

The start

On August 30 last year, I started my career on Medium with an article about statutory health insurance in Germany.

After more than hundred years: Does the statutory health insurance make Germany a socialistic country? | by Klaus Wagner | ILLUMINATION | Medium

This was followed by 2 more articles in September and an article about my results of the first month on Medium. This review of the first month on Medium earned me the first money.

The first cents I earned on Medium made me very happy. I consider my activities on Medium as a hobby, but I think…

From the life of a court expert

Photo by Sandra Dempsey on Unsplash

Many years ago I graduated in business administration and for more than 20 years I have been working as a court expert. Court experts in the field of medicine or technology are known to most people. However, very few people know that there are also court experts for business issues. At the beginning of my work, many of my friends thought that I was a tax investigator and then said to me, “oh, now we have to be careful what we say …”.

For many, this may seem like a rather boring profession, but I really enjoy it. Many court…
