The MoMA in Berlin or standing 8 hours in line

In 2004 the MoMa in New York was rebuilt. During the works the museum was closed and 200 masterpieces were shown in the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The exhibition started in February and ended in September. These masterpieces were only presented in Berlin and nowhere else outside the USA.

This exhibition had a huge response in the media. Thousands of articles were published and a lot of reports were shown on tv. That led to a tremendous rush on the Neue Nationalgalerie. In the end over 1.2 million visitors had seen these extraordinary show.

Interested in paintings of the 19th and 20th century I decided to visit this exhibition too. So I stayed a weekend in Berlin to see the MoMa masterpieces. I arrived on Friday night and went to the exhibition on saturday morning. Already before that weekend I knew the big interest but I was surprised to stand already in the line for buying a ticket. The ticket shop was outside the building.

But that was only the beginning. After the purchase of the ticket I went to the entrance where I saw another line. And this line was very very long. It goes around the building to the back of the exhibition place. So I joined the end of the line. After 30 minutes there were additional 50 people behind me when a group of young people with MoMa-pink t-shirts came to the end of the line and…
